Holocaust Memorial Day – Stamford
27 January 2021 at 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
The 2021 Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration will be a prerecorded event broadcast on Facebook and YouTube, and available to watch afterwards.
There will be an opening address by the Mayor of Stamford, Councillor Bill Turner, followed by the Laying of Daffodils. Kaddish will be read by Graham and another prayer will be read by Rev Andy Fyall, on behalf of Churches Together in Stamford. There will be a 2-minute silence, preceded by the bugle playing of the Last Post and followed by Reveille.
Once again, there will be a poetry reading by Rob Elks, Stamford’s very own Poet Laureate. Some of you may remember the poignant and very moving poetry from this year’s event that Rob kindly allowed us to publish in our newsletter back in May.
We are also hopeful that some of Stamford’s young people will engage with this year’s theme, “Be the Light in the Darkness” and will send in artwork, writings and poetry that will be showcased in the video. A shofar blast of Tekiah Gedolah will conclude the proceedings.
