Liberal Judaism and The Movement for Reform Judaism have announced that they will be working together to create one single unified Progressive Jewish movement for the UK.

Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky will partner with Rabbi Josh Levy who is to become the CEO of The Movement for Reform Judaism, and together they will lead this exciting and history-making project. There is more information here.

On 5th/6th February, it will be Tu B’Shvat, known as the New Year for Trees. In modern times, this is the time we celebrate all things trees, nature and the environment and how we can better our relationship with these.

Our thoughts are with all those being affected by the crisis happening in Ukraine. We pray for a swift and peaceful end to this conflict. In this modern world, we can only hope that love and sense will prevail over hatred and violence.

World Jewish Relief (WJR) and the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) have launched Ukraine Crisis Appeals.

War will be catastrophic for the vulnerable people WJR supports across Ukraine. The charity are in communication with partners across the country and will be responding to needs as they arise.

The WUPJ has also launched a Ukraine Crisis Fund – money will be spent on individuals and communities to ensure their safety and wellbeing. If the conflict escalates further, the money raised will become crucial and necessary help for many people. If the tension eases, the fund will be spent on the development of the progressive Jewish community in Ukraine.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a national commemoration day in the United Kingdom dedicated to the remembrance of the Jews and others who suffered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution.

Liberal Judaism High Holy Days services 2021

Liberal Judaism will be hosting their LJ Biennial online this year, from 30 April – 2 May 2021. The theme for this year is ‘Breaking Down Walls’.

LJ’s Biennial Conference 2021 is co-chaired by Rabbi Leah Jordan, Rabbi at Kehillah North London, and LJ National Officer Owen Power.

Conference Co-Chair Rabbi Leah Jordan says “We will showcase how our movement creates space for the most diverse and interesting sort of Jewish community – one built on the values of progressivism and inclusion that have been at the heart of Liberal Judaism since its founding almost 120 years ago. In true Jewish fashion, we will also hold ourselves to account to do better, to continue to push that horizon and build sustainable change within our Jewish spaces for the 21st century.”
